“The law is clear on this: the public interest matters on these issues,” said Rep. Budd. “Diebold has 4,700 jobs in our country, Hyosung has a few dozen. I’m hopeful that the United States Trade Representative makes the right decision, and overturns this flawed ruling. Making things in America matters, and it’s hard to find a company more American than Diebold--a 150-year-old ATM and safe manufacturer with 150 employees in Greensboro.”

Washington, DC – U.S. Representatives Ted Budd (NC-13) and Mike Turner (OH-8) sent a letter signed by seven other members of Congress asking the United States Trade Representative, Ambassador Robert E. Lighthizer to set aside a ruling by the International Trade Commission against a locally based company, Diebold-Nixdorf, which employs about 150 people in Greensboro.

Diebold-Nixdorf is a 150 year ATM and safe manufacturer.  A few weeks ago, they lost a trade dispute with Hyosung, a Korean ATM manufacturer with a few dozen employees in the United States.  Previously, Hyosung had copied Diebold’s technology, and itself lost a major case in front of the International Trade Commission.  The ruling of a few weeks ago represents an attempt by Hyosung to use the same system for its own advantage.  The United States Trade Representative reviews these decisions to ensure they are in the public interest.  The Budd-Turner letter makes it clear that the public interest in our country is on the side of the company with thousands of domestic employees. Signees include Reps. Foxx , Smith (TX), Jones, Tiberi, Stivers, Gibbs, and Joyce.
