Rep. Ted Budd Introduces Bill to Support Workers Threatened by CoronavirusWashington, D.C. -- Today, Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) introduced the Epidemic Tax Credit Act of 2020. This legislation helps stop the spread of the coronavirus by awarding an “epidemic tax credit” to all private businesses in declared epidemic areas who choose to provide any type of paid leave to their employees. Rep. Budd said in a statement: “The Coronavirus pandemic is a once in a generation health crisis. If the goal is to encourage social distancing, we should discourage as many people as possible, not just those who show symptoms, from gathering at workplaces where they are more likely to spread and contract the disease. This remains especially true since experts suggest that asymptomatic individuals may be contributing to the spread of the virus as well. My bill achieves these goals by providing tax credits to all employers in designated ‘epidemic areas’ who provide any type of leave, not just sick leave.” Jessica Anderson, Vice President of Heritage Action for America said: "It is imperative that Congress works to stem the spread of the Coronavirus and help the families most affected. I applaud Congressman Budd for introducing the Epidemic Tax Credit Act to help businesses provide paid leave for workers whose livelihoods are directly impacted by the current epidemic."
