Budd Leads Letter to Speaker Pelosi Requesting Vote on Green New Deal
Washington, February 27, 2019
Washington D.C. -- U.S. Representative Ted Budd (R-N.C.) released the following statement after leading a letter to Speaker Pelosi urging a vote on the Green New Deal proposal:
“I have finalized and sent a letter to Speaker Pelosi along with 20 of my colleagues, asking her to bring the Green New Deal up for a vote in the House. Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell has said he plans to bring up the proposed legislation for a vote, and I think the House should do the same. While I strongly disagree with the policy in this legislation and think it would be devastating for our country and economy, I also believe our constituents deserve to know where we stand on the ideas laid out in this proposed legislation. Do members of Congress support rebuilding or retrofitting every building across the country to make them more “green?” Or replacing airplanes with a nationwide high speed rail system? What about replacing every car with a combustion engine currently on the road? These are just a few of the ideas provided within the Green New Deal. With the growing popularity of Socialism across the country, it is very important that we continue to champion economic freedom and openly condemn bad policy.”
