Budd Leads Letter to Secretary DeVos Calling to Address BDS Concerns on Campus

Washington D.C. – U.S. Representative Ted Budd (R-NC) released the following statement after sending a letter to Secretary Betsy DeVos expressing strong concerns with recent reports that a University of Michigan professor denied writing a reference for a student as part of a anti-Israel boycott:

“I was shocked to hear that a professor at a renowned American university reversed his willingness to write a reference for one of his students to study abroad in Israel because he was part of a larger world-wide anti-Jewish boycott. It’s one thing to speak your mind, and in this country we must always protect free speech. However, the fact that he is a professor at a university that receives millions of dollars from taxpayers around the country is worrisome.

"This is why I lead a letter with a handful of my colleagues to Secretary DeVos asking her to reaffirm the department’s support for Israel and ensure instances like the one we saw at Michigan are not occurring elsewhere. The relationship between the United States and Israel has never been stronger, and we must ensure we do everything to keep it this way.”
