Washington D.C. -- U.S. Representative Ted Budd (R-NC) released the following statement after passage of H. Res. 970:

"For over a year now, the Intelligence Committee has conducted an investigation into potential abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) by the Department of Justice. And late last year, the Judiciary and Oversight Committees began a joint investigation into decisions made by DOJ during its investigation of the emails of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"The Department of Justice has so far failed to comply with certain requests for information and congressional subpoenas by both the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Judiciary Committee. Abuse of laws like FISA can’t simply be ignored or brushed aside. The American people deserve answers, and the only way we’ll get those answers is if every last document is turned over.

"The bottom line here is that Congress shouldn’t have to beg anyone in the executive branch to turn over documents and hopefully this resolution will make it even more clear that we’re serious about these requests."
