Washington D.C. – U.S. Representative Ted Budd (R-NC) released the following statement after joining the North Carolina delegation supporting a disaster declaration after the Greensboro tornado:

“The F2 tornado that hit Greensboro last week has left a devastating impact on our entire community. Homes, schools and businesses have all been severely damaged—we tragically lost one citizen to this storm.  It’s time for the federal government to do its part. I’ve worked with my colleagues to support the Governor’s request for a major disaster declaration. This letter, led by Senator Burr, is the result.

From the beginning of this tornado, I’ve been in close contact with local officials, law enforcement and first responders. I am proud to say that our community has rallied around each other during this tragedy. Churches and community centers have opened their doors to care for those in need. Let’s continue to join together on this long road to recovery.”

A preliminary assessment by FEMA officials found that 36 homes or businesses were destroyed, 180 homes suffered major damage, 289 homes have minor damage, and 316 properties have been affected.  The governor transmitted his official request for a major disaster declaration to the federal government on April 25, 2018.
