WASHINGTON -- U.S. Representative Ted Budd (R-NC) releases statement following President Trump’s decision to formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel:
"I applaud President Trump for fulfilling his promise to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Today’s announcement sends a clear signal to the world that in any coming peace negotiations we will not be pressuring Israel to give up its historic and religious capital. Congress passed a bipartisan law back in 1995 that required the movement of our embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem. This same law also stated that Jerusalem should be the “undivided” capital of Israel. This historic move by President Trump shows, once again, that the bond between our two countries is stronger than ever." |
