Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) has sponsored H.R. 5854, the Illegal Immigrant Payoff Prohibition Act. The bill prohibits the Attorney General from making any taxpayer-funded settlements to any individual for claims that originate from an illegal entry into the United States. The bill was originally introduced by Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA). Rep. Budd said in a statement: “The Biden Administration’s reported attempt to reward illegal immigrants with $450,000 payments is a flat out insult to everyday taxpayers and those who follow the laws of our land. President Biden needs to renounce this outrageous scheme and I am glad to join a bill that bars this administration from implementing it. Big thanks to Rep. McClintock for leading this critical bill.” |
