Rep. Ted Budd Statement Opposing Debt Ceiling Suspension

Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) released the following statement after voting against suspending the debt ceiling:

“For years, the Washington Swamp has been addicted to more spending and debt. Since the beginning of 2020, the federal government has run an annual, record deficit of $3.1 trillion, adding over $5 trillion to the debt. The national debt currently stands at nearly $30 trillion. That works out to an astounding $228,000 per taxpayer.”

“The swamp routinely kicks the can of reigning in out of control spending down the road, saddling our children and grandchildren with more debt. Instead of using this moment to get America’s fiscal house in order, Congressional Democrats have decided to raise the limit on the national credit card. I cannot participate in enabling Washington’s spending addiction. The longer we push off solving this problem, the closer our country comes to yet another crisis.”
