Rep. Ted Budd Proposes Amendment to Restore Afghan Weapons Reports
Washington, September 21, 2021
Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) has proposed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would order the Department of Defense (DOD) to restore the publicly available accountings of military assistance provided to the Afghan security forces.
Much of this accounting was erased from some federal websites in August.
Rep. Budd said in a statement:
“The Biden administration’s attempt to cover up their monumental failures while withdrawing from Afghanistan is outrageous and must be reversed. My amendment simply restores some accountability to the taxpayer-funded equipment that President Biden left behind. Taxpayers paid for this equipment, and they deserve to know how much of it is now in the hands of hostile Taliban forces.”
The text of the amendment is below:
PROHIBITION ON REMOVAL OF PUBLICLY AVAILABLE ACCOUNTINGS OF MILITARY ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO THE AFGHAN SECURITY FORCES.
None of the funds authorized to be appropriated by this Act or otherwise made available for the Department of Defense for fiscal year 2022 may be used to remove from the website of the Department of Defense or any other agency publicly available accountings of military assistance provided to the Afghan security forces that was publicly available online as of July 1, 2021.
