Dear Friends,

These past few weeks the House has focused on passing legislation that will strengthen our national security and keep citizens both home and abroad safe. Last week, the House passed Make America Secure Appropriations Act, 2018 which includes funding for the defense department, military construction, Veterans Affairs, the Legislative Branch, energy and water development for the fiscal year of 2018. At a glance, this package, rebuilds our military, gives our soldiers a well-deserved pay raise and provides funds to build a wall on the southern border. As we move into August, I want to share a few more items that the House has accomplished in the past two weeks.

My Bill Included In Russia Sanctions Bill Signed By President Trump
Former President Bush was right when he declared that “money is the lifeblood of terrorist operations.” In order to starve out these terrorist groups like ISIS of resources needed to carry out their radical Islamist agenda we must to provide a coordinated strategy. My bipartisan terrorism billrepresents a significant step towards an effective, sustained national strategy to attack the funding that makes terrorism possible. I am grateful that the president passed my bill into law as apart of a larger sanctions package targeting Russia and Iran.

Bringing Jobs Back Home
Earlier last week, Lexington and Davidson county unveiled a huge economic announcement that will bring nearly 800 new jobs to our community. The european wood product company, Egger Wood Products announced that they would bring their business to our state and invest an estimated $700 million over the next 15 years. Our state’s long history with furniture manufacturing and skilled workforce makes the area a great location for Egger Woods Products to invest their company’s future.

Visit From North Carolinians
We were thrilled to have representatives from the Rowan-Kannapolis Alcoholic Beverage Control Board stop by our office last week to discuss their work to prevent undereage drinking. This group’s work has proven that strong leadership and support is important to maintaining a healthy community.

Cutting Unnecessary Regulations
We all have to answer to someone. Members of Congress do so every two or six years during elections. What I’ve heard at home is that unelected bureaucrats and rulemakers in Washington seem to answer to no one. Last week, I introduced a bill, RESET Act, that calls for a review of all major federal regulations and allows Congress the option of overturning any regulation through a majority vote of both the House and Senate. This legislation follows on the success of the Congressional Review Act, which has been used 14 times in 2017 to overturn major federal regulations. If this bill goes into law, Congress will have a greater degree of control over the bureaucracy. Keep up with the progress of my bills by signing up to receive email updates here.

It is an honor to serve as your representative and I always appreciate hearing your feedback. You can send me a note here.

Congressman Ted Budd
